Why it looks like this
Bazhong is a valley city in the hilly country between the Sichuan basin and the Daba Mountains. The Ba River gives the city its name and its shape: streets crowd the flat land along the water and climb reluctantly where the slopes begin.
Long one of the more remote corners of Sichuan, the area grew quickly once expressways and railways finally pushed through the mountains in recent decades.
