Why it looks like this
Kallakurichi grew where roads across northern Tamil Nadu cross on the way between the coast and the hills, a classic Indian junction town: bus stand, bazaar streets, and market lanes knotted around the crossing, with newer growth following each highway outward.
In 2019 it was made the headquarters of a new district carved from Villupuram, and government offices and institutions have been pulling the town outward ever since.
